John Burdett practiced law in London and Hong Kong for 14 years until he was able to write full time. He is best known for his Sonchai Jitpleecheep thrillers. Set in Bangkok, the six-book series began with Bangkok 8 and stars a half-Thai half-American Buddhist Royal Thai Detective prone to philosophical musings. All six books have become bestsellers and have been translated into 20 languages. His first novel, Last Six Million Seconds, was set in Hong Kong in the last days before the handover to China in 1997. He has lived in France, Spain, Hong Kong and the U.K., and now splits his time between Bangkok and Southwest France.
