Orasom Suthisakorn

Orasom Suthisakorn is a non-fiction documentary writer renowned for works reflecting challenging social issues and offering constructive approaches in addressing them, ranging from domestic violence to the suffering of the terminally ill. Her focus is on the stories of people at the fringes of society. Since her first collection of writing was published at the age of 30, Orasom has written more than 50 books of non-fiction. In 2009, Orasom won the Silpathorn Award for Literature from the Thai Ministry of Culture’s Office of Contemporary Art and Culture.

She founded the prisoners’ advocacy group “Friends Behind the Wall”, and since 2010 has taught writing to prisoners on death row. Currently, her work with prisoners has expanded to include teaching them to sculpt Buddha statues, donations for which helps fund a new life for released prisoners.
