Pailin Wedel
Pailin Wedel’s first full-length documentary film, Hope Frozen, won the Best International Feature Documentary at the 2019 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, the largest and most distinguished documentary film festival in North America. A half-Thai, half-American journalist and filmmaker who grew up in Bangkok, she works on documentaries that focus themes of faith, trauma and the clash between the East and the West. She founded her production company, 2050 Productions, in 2017.
In addition to her television work with news channels such as Al Jazeera English and Bloomberg, she also films pieces for The New York Times, National Geographic, and Monocle. Before creating 2050 Productions, she was the Asia Interactive producer for the Associated Press, where she directed online interactive coverage for the region. She began her career as a photojournalist at U.S. newspapers.
